India Vs Australia 4th Test, Adelaide.
At the
end of Day 4 of the 4th test at Adelaide, the score board read India
166/6 in 56 over(s). All the much celebrated batsmen of the Indian team, so
called champions of the World Cup 2011 sat in the pavilion probably sipping the
evening tea. They had failed yet again and their performance was much on the
expected lines.
Australia
needs just 4 more wickets to complete the whitewash. They would complete all
formalities required for the same on day 5, may be in less than 4 hours
tomorrow. Barring Virat Kohli’s century in the 1st innings (116 runs
off 213 balls) and Virender Sehwag’s half century in the 2nd innings
(62 runs off 53 balls), none of the other Indian batsmen performance is worthy
of discussion.
Virat’s
effort definitely deserves applause; it was his maiden 100 in a test match.
More importantly this young land played with all his heart, aggression mixed
with caution, he played like a matured cricketer. It was sad that he couldn’t
find a worthy partner as wickets kept tumbling at one end as he tried to steady
the ship at the other end. Sehwag might have scored a quick fire half century,
but it was a shame to see him bat the way he did. It might have been an
unselfish innings but it was irresponsible show off.
Poor Batting By Indian Team Continues.
When the 2nd innings began, what Indians
should have ideally done, was something they didn’t throughout the series. The
need of the hour was to keep wickets and play sensibly, build a strong opening
partnership. But guess these are the
terms which likes of Gambhir and Sehwag don’t understand. And soon after Sehwag
departed, the famous Indian parade of batsmen departing one after another
followed.
Tomorrow’s
play is mere formality, India has already lost the series and with the
unavoidable loss in the 4th test, Australia is all set to win the
series 4-0. The last nail in the coffin would be hit tomorrow and Indians are
going to be buried and buried deep at Adelaide. This would be India’s 8th
consecutive defeat in a test match overseas. I would conclude by quoting
something that I read in a news article which I read sometime on www.indianexpress.com “Indian batsmen
are like faithful husbands, they perform only at home.”*

I was really not inclined to write a whole post on Indian cricket teams performance on the last day. The results where very much on the lines of what I wrote yesterday. Indians quickly lost the remaining 4 wickets very early on the 5th day. In the end Indian team was bundled out at 201. India finished their 2nd Innings with a score of 201/10 (69.4 Overs) and finally Australia won the match by 298 runs.
My tweet in the morning said it all :

"Finally an end to a miserable Test series! Australia played
fantastic cricket, deserving victory! Indian performance was Dismal!"
